'Where Hope Works' tells Rescue Mission story

Rescue Mission of Trenton, the recipient of this year's Times Holiday Appeal, has a new, very emotional 15-minute film titled "Where Hope Works."

The video, which can be seen on the mission's website (www.rescuemissionoftrenton.org) captures the challenges and the joys of helping people rebuild their lives.

Through extensive interviews with mission staff and clients, the film describes the struggles of individuals whose lives have been broken by a tough world; the causes and triggers of their addictions; the pain they experience; and their joy when they triumph over their circumstances and secure a job with the help of skills learned at the mission.

The video shows how the mission is working to create an environment in which its clients can live with dignity, build self-esteem, and experience love, responsibility and hope. The video also describes the continuum of programs the mission offers and how these programs help individuals reclaim their lives.

"Where Hope Works" pulls no punches in pointing out the depths of despair to which many of the mission's clients have sunk because of their addictions. It acknowledges that beating one's demons is very difficult. In a powerful way, it makes the case that we are fortunate that there is a place in our community dedicated to reshaping and remaking lives: the Rescue Mission of Trenton.

Funds from this year's Holiday Appeal will be used to support the Rescue Mission's broad range of programs for the homeless, the hungry, the transient and the addicted.

Hutchinson Industries, a longtime supporter of Rescue Mission of Trenton, has pledged to match the first $25,000 raised from contributors, challenging the community to be generous this holiday season.
