Linowitz Foundation issues challenge for Holiday Appeal

Friday, December 17, 2010 Laurie Pellichero SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The Rose and Louis H. Linowitz Charitable Foundation, a longtime supporter of The Times Holiday Appeal, has stepped forward with the second challenge to Times readers and area organizations to be generous this holiday season. The foundation has pledged to match the next $5,000 raised by the 2010 campaign.

"We want people to know that even a small donation can make a difference, and will be doubled if they rise to the challenge," said Marc Linowitz, president and treasurer of the Rose and Louis H. Linowitz Charitable Foundation. "Now it's time for other corporate citizens in the Trenton area to step up as well."

Funds from this year's Holiday Appeal will be used to support the Rescue Mission of Trenton's broad range of programs for the homeless, the hungry, the transient and the addicted.

This year's campaign has raised $53,884 to date, including a $25,000 match grant from Hutchinson Industries.

Recent donors include Ken and Dee Tillman of Locust Grove, Va., who sent $100 with a note from Ken Tillman, "I was delighted to learn that The Times Holiday Appeal will be going to the Rescue Mission of Trenton this year. There couldn't be a more deserving organization.

"When I lived in the Trenton area, I was able to observe firsthand the marvelous work of the Rescue Mission through its many programs," he wrote. "The bottom line is that this organization makes a difference in the lives of many people throughout the year, every year. Addiction, homelessness, hunger and lack of a job are just some of the problems that the outstanding Rescue Mission staff focuses on as they improve the lives of the most needy in the area. Dee and I are pleased to be able to support the Times Holiday Appeal."

Nancy Wilson of Monroe also sent $100 and Jean Rath of Manlius, N.Y., sent $50.

Donations of $25 each were received from Helen Evans of Monroe; Patricia McLaren of Lawrence; and Theresa Fitzgibbon and Sister Peggy of Trenton sent $25 with a note, "Many thanks for your good work and fine paper."

Lisa Glock of Robbinsville sent $20.

Anonymous donations include $50 from Bordentown; $25 from Hopewell; $25 from Hamilton Square with a note; "In memory of our parents"; and $20 from Pennington.

Many thanks to these benefactors.
